Mission Trip to South Africa – September 16 – October 9
The goals of this trip were:
- Attend the 20th Anniversary Celebration of the Uniting Presbyterian Church of Southern Africa. The UPCSA was established on the 26th September 1999, as a merger of the Presbyterian Church of Southern Africa (a predominantly white church which was established in 1897) and the Reformed Presbyterian Church in Southern Africa (a black church which was established in 1923). The UPCSA has congregations in South Africa, Zambia and Zimbabwe, and is part of one united congregation in Namibia.
- Introduce Rev. Thea to the work we’ve been doing the past 20 years – Visit with our friends – Winnie Maneli, the Xuza’s and the Jwambi’s in the Tyhume Valley and of course Dr. Norma and Derek on Hogsback, with visits and inspection of several home gardens and community gardens.
- Meetings with the uBunye Committee of the Amathole Presbytery for planning for the future of the Partnership between the two Presbyteries – Amathole and PNNE.
