Homeowner Testimonials

“Recently we were chosen for home repairs by Mission at the Eastward. They built a set of stairs for us, the ones we had were old bricks and rocks and very unsafe. The day work started, a group of young adults arrived and a carpenter to teach them. The group was shown how to use saws and drills and instructed how to measure and the work began. It was so amazing to see this group learn and build our new steps. We had such a wonderful time watching them and spending time with them. We are so proud of all of them and beyond blessed with our new steps. Thanks to Mission at the Eastward for providing the materials and giving us such a wonderful group for the week. God bless!”

“I felt like I had rocks on top of me and I couldn’t breathe. I was exhausted. I couldn’t sleep at night. I was afraid that today’s the day they’re going to come and take the boys because we couldn’t get this done. I’ve got the boys, and that was my goal: to keep the boys. We’ve been worrying about this for like two years, and to have this done was like a miracle.”

“At first they started off as strangers on the first day, then on the second day, I was telling them jokes and horsing around with them and helping them out however I could, and by day 3 they were closer than my family.”

“When the shingles got ripped off and the new roof got put on, it was sort of like a guardian angel got placed on top of my roof.”

“The roof was put on due to love, faith, compassion, and helping thy neighbor. It was put on for all the right reasons.”

“The work gave me more faith and trust in humanity. I had never expected good to come back to me, and when it came back to me, it kind of shocked me.”

“After I got to know the people, they didn’t look down on me, they didn’t look up at me, they just treated me no different than family.”

“They’ve been gone a few months, but in years to come, they will always be here.”

“Some of the crew from last year came back to see us and I cried.”

“It (the repairs) means we will be able to live out the rest of our lives here and give the house to one of our kids.”

“They just weren’t volunteers, I ended up making friends.”
